Vernon R. Loucks, Jr. Joins the Board of Directors of MedAssets, Inc.

john A. Bardis, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of MedAssets, Inc., is pleased to announce that Vernon R. Loucks, Jr. has joined the Company’s Board of Directors effective immediately.  Mr. Loucks is chairman of The Aethena Group, LLC, a healthcare merchant banking firm, and his distinguished management career includes 19 years as chief executive officer of Baxter International Inc., one of the world's leading medical products companies.  Additionally, he held the title of chairman of the board of Baxter from July 1987 through December 1999.

Mr. Loucks joined Baxter in 1966 as assistant to the president and chief executive officer.  His career at Baxter included senior positions in both domestic and international operations.  In December 1975, he was elected to the company’s board of directors.  He became president and chief operating officer in 1976, chief executive officer in 1980, and was named chairman in 1987.

Mr. Loucks is a director of Affymetrix, Inc., Anheuser-Busch Companies, Inc., Edwards Lifesciences Corp., Emerson Electric Co., Pain Therapeutics, Inc. and Segway LLC.  He is a member of The Chicago Club, The Council of Retired Chief Executives, and is a former chairman and co-founder of The Healthcare Leadership Council.  Mr. Loucks is a Life Trustee of Rush-Presbyterian/St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago, and served as Senior Fellow of the Yale Corporation and as director of the Harvard Business School Board of the Associates.  Mr. Loucks also is a former chairman of the Health Industry Manufacturers Association and served as special adviser to the director of the U.S. National Institutes of Health from 1983 to 1986.  Mr. Loucks holds a bachelor's degree in history from Yale University and a master's degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration.  He is a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.
